A Yinxing Tea Pot is made of a natural clay and named after the city of Yinxing in China. A true Yinxing is made of oxide rich Zisha (purple clay). When you deside to invest in a Yinxing you devote it to one tea. Some people choose one type of tea: either pu-erg or oolong. But it is tradition to hone your usage down to one verity of either type. I love Red Blossom Tea's description of their Yinging clay tea pots:
Dating back to the Sung Dynasty
(900-1200 A.D.), Yixing tea pots
are small, beautifully crafted
vessels for brewing teas. Because
they are porous, these pots absorb
the flavor, scent and tint of teas
brewed in them. After fifteen
years of continued usage, one is
able to steep a cup of tea in a
Yixing tea pot without adding tea
leaves.

I really like this design better but the 'Bamboo' style with an infuser I do not care for. I would have to say this looks like an amazing idea but I am a but leery of its quality at $22... most Yinxings are anywhere from 50 - 100+ and that is for a tea pot half the holding capacity of this mug. Still on my birthday list though :o) |
